Two Worlds Blooming Through Art: Solo Exhibition by Artists with Disabilities from Masterpiece Studio

The Korea Social Welfare Society, with sponsorship from the HD Hyundai 1% Sharing Foundation, 

has been supporting solo exhibitions by artists with disabilities from Masterpiece Studio for the past three years.

As part of this ongoing initiative, solo exhibitions by artists Kim Tae-min and Kim Kyung-seop were held at Hakgojae Art Center in Jongno-gu, Seoul, from August 11 to 15.

Through his series “memory in matter,” artist Kim Tae-min

presented profound compositions created by various materials—such as landscapes, paint, and clay—along with his unique artistic universe, while

Meanwhile, through his first-ever solo exhibition, “ONE BY ONE,” artist Kim Kyung-seop

introduced his unique artistic universe, built upon repetitive lines and forms.

Both exhibitions served as meaningful opportunities for artists with disabilities to showcase their work in professional exhibition spaces and take a step forward in their growth as artists.

Masterpiece Studio supported the entire process of the solo exhibitions—from exhibition planning and space design to promotion and operations—

enabling artists with disabilities to continue their activities in the professional art scene.

In particular, the support for these solo exhibitions served as an opportunity to present concrete creative goals and new possibilities not only to the selected artists but also to

other artists with disabilities who continue to pursue their artistic endeavors alongside them.

Visitors to the exhibitions admired the works and cheered on the artists.

Masterpiece Studio opened in March 2024 within the Amsa Rehabilitation Center and has been discovering and nurturing artists with developmental disabilities.

Last year, through a level-based curriculum consisting of basic, advanced, and expert classes,

it provided systematic art education to a total of 55 people with developmental disabilities,

and continued to achieve results in self-reliance through art, including selections for the Integrated Art Competition and the employment of nine artists with disabilities.

Moving forward, the Korean Association of Social Welfare will continue to support artists with disabilities

so they can consistently develop their own unique artistic worlds!
