Two weeks after birth, Ji-yeon (pseudonym) was rescued from a dangerous and unsanitary environment and entered the Gwangju Baby’s Reception Home of the Korean Welfare Services.
Initially, it was expected that she would only grow healthy. However, after being tested at the hospital for swollen eyes like a sty, she was diagnosed with stage 3 germ cell tumors. Ji-yeon, who was only one year old, had to undergo chemotherapy. During the treatment, the number of neutrophils and white blood cells decreased. Ji-yeon had to receive a blood transfusion and intravenous fluids in the emergency room several times. After six rounds of chemotherapy, Ji-yeon showed incredible willpower and completed the treatment, enduring all these hardships. In the PET-CT test conducted in August, we heard that cancer cells were gone. As it is a cancer with a high recurrence rate, regular observation and treatment are needed in the future. Ji-yeon has been taking antifungal medicines for three months, and everyone at Gwangju Baby’s Reception Home is working to maintain a childcare environment similar to the aseptic area to prevent her from getting sick.
Please cheer for Jiyeon so she can walk vigorously and dream of a bright and healthy future! We look forward to your warm attention and love.
