Until the orphanage volunteer becomes the president of the sponsorship association in Busan.

“As long as it is good for all the children, I think I can do it.”

Q. Please tell us about yourself.

A. My name is Gwang-wuk Cho living in Busan with wife and two loving daughters. 

Q. Since when did you start to have an interest in sponsorship? 

A. When I was in my twenties, I started volunteering at an orphanage while also working at a company. Since then, I have always wanted to provide support not just to the children in the orphanage but also to children in the world. However, I could not find a way to make it happen. Now, in my forties and raising my children, it has struck me that I should help others. 

Q. How did you get involved with the KWS? 

A. I have been a supporter of Sarang-saem, an institution for single mothers and I got to know KWS. The exceptional kindness of the employees at KWS is what attracted me. It felt like a family.

Q. What does it mean to you to be part of ‘We the Great Shop.’, regular donation campaign for small business owners?

A. While giving to others, I get greater comfort and warmth in my mind. I had a specific amount in mind for donation, but my wife donated twice that without telling me. I felt thankful to her. 

Q. Why did you accept the president of the sponsorship association in Busan? 

A. When they offered me, I was worried if I could do a good job, but I felt like as long as it is good for all the children, I think I can do it. 

Q. Please share your hopes and visions as the president of the sponsorship association in Busan. 

A. There is a saying that goes, ‘Donation is about accepting much from those who have a lot, and a little from those who have less.’ However, I have a different perspective. The amount does not matter. If there are more instances of donations, it is beneficial for the children. Therefore, I will do my best to encourage more people to participate in donations.
